Using One Call Today

What is One Call Today?

One Call Today is a nationwide directory of home-service pros. Search by trade and town, see Featured and top-rated local pros, and call the business direct.

Does it cost anything to use?

No. Searching and calling pros is free for homeowners. We do not charge lead fees or sell your phone number.

How are the top-rated pros chosen?

We rank local businesses by their public Google rating weighted by how many reviews they have, so a 4.9 with 300 reviews beats a 5.0 with 3. Featured pros are marked clearly and shown first.

What does Featured mean?

Featured pros are local businesses that pay to appear at the top of their trade and area. They are labeled Featured so you always know. Top-rated and local listings are not paid placements.

Which trades are listed?

Plumbing, HVAC, roofing, electrical, gutters, painting, septic, landscaping, handyman and general construction.

What if I can't find the right pro?

Use the button. Tell us the job and your town or ZIP and we will point you to a trusted local pro.

Hiring a pro

How do I check a contractor's license?

Licensing is set by each state, and sometimes by the county or city. Every state hub links to that state's official license lookup. Check the license, and ask for proof of liability insurance, before work starts.

How many estimates should I get?

For bigger jobs like a roof, HVAC system or remodel, get at least three written estimates that list the same scope, materials and timeline so you can compare them fairly.

How much should I pay up front?

Keep the deposit modest and tie later payments to finished milestones. Some states cap deposits by law, so check your state hub. Be wary of anyone who wants full payment in cash before starting.

Do I need a permit?

Many electrical, plumbing, HVAC, roofing and structural jobs need a local permit. A licensed pro usually pulls it. Ask who is responsible for the permit before you sign.

What should be in a written contract?

The scope of work, materials, price, payment schedule, start and finish dates, who handles permits and cleanup, and the warranty. Get it in writing before any money changes hands.

What should I do in an emergency like a burst pipe or gas smell?

If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. For a burst pipe, shut off the main water valve, then call a plumber. Featured pros list a direct phone number so you can reach them fast.
